Years later with a degree in journalism I started my career by writing for newspapers and magazines then working as public relations manager for various non-profit organizations.
But the stories continued to haunt me so in the late 90’s I decided to try my hand at fiction. I sold my first book, Practice Makes Mr. Perfect, to Silhouette Romance in 2002, followed by the sale of Got a Hold on You to Dorchester. Got a Hold on You is the first book in my romantic comedy series set in professional wresting. The second book, Ring Around My Heart (2004), received the Reviewer’s Choice Award for Best Contemporary Romance from Romantic Times Magazine, and book three, Love on the Ropes, was released in the fall of 2006 and received a 4 1/2 star review from RTBookclub Magazine.
While writing the comedies I also continued to think about romantic suspense story lines. In 2006 my debut Harlequin Intrigue, Silent Memories, hit the shelves with a rave Top Pick review from Romantic Times Magazine. I've written eight books for Intrigue and one for Silhouette Nocturne. In 2010 I branched out into Young Adult fiction with Out of My Mind about a teenage girl with a traumatic brain injury that causes frightening visions that sometimes come true, and Escape, about a teenager who discovers her life is at risk due to her hidden talents.
As Hope White I also write for Love Inspired Suspense (LIS). My first LIS, Hidden in Shadows, was released in 2010 followed by my Port Whisper series: Witness on the Run (2011), Christmas Haven (2011) and Small Town Protector (2012). My next LIS, Safe Harbor, will be released in May, 2013. My LIS novels are not only action-packed, suspenseful and emotional, but they also feature a faith element to round out the story.
In 2009 I pursued my passion for screenwriting by writing two romantic comedies, Sugar & Spies, and Got a Hold on You (adapted from my book). Sugar & Spies won the Sunbreak Award in the Northwest Screenplay Competition. More recently I've written two thrillers including Escape, which won the Grand Prize in the 2011 Page International Screenplay competition, and my current script, Hunted.
I'm proud to be President Emeritus of the Northwest Screenwriters Guild, a fantastic organization that brings Hollywood execs to Seattle to give Guild members a chance to learn about the biz and pitch their movies. (nwsg.org)
When not at my computer you’ll find me hiding out in a movie theater, hiking the Cascade Mountains, walking my cats and dogs, or investigating new forms of exercise (Kenpo, anyone -- and no, it's not a sushi dish.) For more information, visit http://www.patwhitewriter.com
FAVORITE BEACH READ:
One beach. One book. Well… that would have to be… The Scarlet Pimpernel. It has everything! Intrigue, drama, suspense, danger and romance. Talk about romantic conflict. I also LOVE the whole masked crusader archetype. I’ll never forget the scene where they Marguerite and Percy get into a highly charged, emotional argument, then she leaves and Sir Percy actually kneels and kisses the ground where she’d just stood. <SWOON> Yes, this would be my one book.LATEST NEWS & EVENTS:
May is book release month for my alter ego, Hope White. Hope’s inspirational romantic suspense, SafeHarbor, received a 4 Star review from Romantic Times Bookclub Magazine and has already garnered excellent reviews on Amazon.BOOKS:
